During the first couple classes and tutor training day, I learned the rules and expectations of a tutor. I also learned about the school I would be working at and the students who I would be working with. On top of that, I learned new vocabulary words, how to present myself on the first day, and how to engage/help a student in need out. I also learned helpful tips on how to be a successful tutor. There were many activities that we worked on this semester. As a result, I was able to develop new skills as well as improve on others. Some skills included planning, organization, communication and critical thinking skills. There were other skills like coordinating projects, teamwork, time-management and leadership skills. That ranges from the students in TE 362 to the people working in Pathsway's office. They are always there to help and provide great advice, which can aways be applied outside of class. At Lincoln High School, most students are willing to learn given the extra help and assistance. However, due to lack of funds and teachers most students do not get that extra help and give up. I will use what I learned thought this experience in my everyday life, whether it is at graduate school, work, home or etc. For example, next year I am going to graduate school and will be a Teacher Assistant. One of the things I plan on doing with my class is incorporated reciprocal teaching lessons. Another thing I learned from this experience is how to be organized through one of the seminar and communicate efficiently. I will be a better communicator and more organized at home and work. I was able to help students out with homework and classwork, which translated to higher grades on the assignment and in the class. I was also able to get some students to pass last quarter, which allowed them to avoid summer school and graduate on time. Finally, the most important contribution I felt I made was I motivated the students and inspired them to do better in school and life in general. Hopefully, the students will one day be able to change their circumstances and I gave them hope. There were a few overall contribution made by my class. The first overall contribution was everyone was willing to work together as a class and groups at their individual tables. The second overall contribution was everyone contributed different ideas, which resulted in better test results. Finally, the class overall contribution on me was inspiring.
