Meriam-Webster defines poverty as “the state of one who lacks a usual or socially acceptable amount of money or material possessions”. Poverty is considered a major world problem and many international organizations such as the United Nations and the World Bank are working on reducing it. According to the CIA’s World Factbook, more than 22 million Egyptians are living below poverty line. This project focuses on how 3D printing can help alleviate poverty and increase economic growth in Egypt and other developing countries.
3D printing can help by providing alternative to the already scarce venture capital, as Faludi (2015) points out that “3D printing's greatest promise for developing nations is likely the same as in rich nations: empowering …show more content…

Getting rid of plastic waste by recycling it into 3D printing. People already began designing plastic recycling devices. Recyclebot is a low cost, open source device that can recycle plastic waste into 3D printable filament.
2. Reducing carbon footprint by promoting recycling and reducing supply chain transportation emissions.
3. Decreasing the need to import products from oversees and saving scarce foreign funds.
4. Prosthetic limbs: costs around 3000-30000$, can be easily printed using 3D printers.
5. Affordable, low cost technology solutions are available as open source designs and can be 3D printed, instead of buying them expensive from oversees. These include: lab equipment, weather stations and water filtering equipment.

A self-replicating 3D printer self-replicates by making a kit of itself - a kit that anyone can assemble given time and materials. It also means that - if you've got that particular printer, you can print any object, and you can print another one for a friend. So this greatly reduces cost and makes it easy enough for people to get this technology. The concept of a self-replicating machine isn’t new (called Von Neumann Machine), the RepRap project (started in 2005 by Dr. Adrian Bowyer) developed such printer, but their self-replication ability is limited. Our project focuses on developing a 3D printer with increased self-replicating
