Generally speaking people know that hero’s go on quest to learn about them self.Over the course of The Odyssey, by Homer, we see that Odysseus is lost for 20 years and also has to overcome obstacles to get back to Ithaca with his family. It is important to recognize hero’s journey present in the The Odyssey because he receive supernatural aid from Athena to get home, road of trail he has to overcome the lotus eaters,Abyss he can’t be himself at home. One important aspect of the Hero’s journey is supernatural aid. A final aspect of the hero’s journey is the abyss. According to Homer “Odysseus enter his home as a beggar,and the suitors mock and abuse him. Penelope asks to speak with the beggar, but odyssey puts her off until nightfall.”(Beer’s 402).Odysseus has gone home but had to dress as a beggar because he couldn’t be himself. Odysseus dressing as a beggar is key to understanding the abyss because he couldn’t be himself at home. Overall, one can see that Odysseus went on the hero’s journey in The Odyssey because he received supernatural aid from Athena to get home, he had to overcome the lotus eaters, and he went through the abyss since he can’t be himself at home. Clearly, Athena has been helping odysseus through his journey is similar to the supernatural aid because without Athena Odysseus wouldn’t return home.
