Ivan Verin Jennifer Kennedy English 109 28 April 2016 Video Gaming as a Sport Some people say that advancements in technology are not good and they will only hurt the humanity. However, I completely disagree with it because in my opinion if people didn’t strive to advance in technology we might have still lived in something like Stone Age. I decided to make my research on eSports, also known as Cyber Sports or Competitive Video Gaming. In the world we currently live in not everyone recognizes the term eSports and if they do they don’t recognize it as a sport. Why is that? Some people argue that eSports cannot be called a sport because it’s different from traditional sports, but is it? Let’s start with defining the term sport and see whether or not they’re actually different. According to Oxford dictionary a sport is an “activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment.” As you can see both traditional sports and eSports have competition and are both for entertainment, so the only argument left is physical exertion. I can argue that eSports does require physical but it’s a whole different story. Also I want to note that chess is considered to be a sport, and to be honest I don’t see much physical exertion there. Other people’s argument is something like “How can you watch a bunch of guys play a video game?” and that makes me want to ask them, “How can you …show more content…
