An epic hero is an ordinary individual who finds strength to endure overwhelming obstacles. In Edith Hamilton’s Mythology, three heros named Perseus, Theseus, and Hercules exhibit different traits that affect their journey in a positive or negative way. Perseus receives supernatural help, Theseus displays incredible strength, and Hercules has a fatal flaw that will end tragically, these qualities are what classify each as an epic hero.
A large part of being an epic hero is reflecting a trait from his society. In Greece, all of the people abided by the Xena Contract. It stated that all Greek people had to be very hospitable, and the
An epic hero is someone who is characterized commonly on their nobility and bravery. However ,there are more attributes epic heros can posses. For example Odysseus, the protagonist in Homer's retelling of “The Odyssey”, shows many forms of excessive arrogance and pomposity. After conquering Troy, Odysseus and his men set off on their way home.
An example of Odysseus being an epic hero is his loyalty and leadership skills. When Odysseus first gets on the island of cyclops, he only brings his best twelve men on the island with him, “I took my twelve best fighters and went ahead” (Homer 136). Instead of bringing all of his men on the island with him, Odysseus
Since the beginning of time, people have looked to a figure of power that would help them in their time of need. In Edith Hamilton’s Mythology: Edith Hamilton, there are stories upon stories that tell about righteous and wicked gods, goddesses, and epic heroes. When discussing epic heroes, it’s usually the same two figures that come up, Perseus and Theseus. Arguably, between the two, Theseus is the better epic hero because he is ethical and morally upright and because his life ends tragically. Now when it comes to what an epic hero is, there are many traits and characteristics, some of those being: having significance and glory, going on a quest to establish greatness, and facing enormous tasks of adversity.
The person i chose was Achilles. The reason i chose Achilles was because i thought he was cool and i liked that he was a Demigod, and he can’t die unless he gets shot in the achilles. This is why i chose Achilles. Achilles had a complicated family tree.
An epic hero is a brave and noble character, who is admired for their excellent achievements. Odysseus for example, has lots of ways that show that. Throughout the story we see that Odysseus faced many challenges and obstacles which tests his leadership skills. As we read the Odyssey, Homer indicates that Odysseus is loyal, has straightness, and is intelligent.
The qualities that make an epic hero are strength, courage a strong mentality, and the aspiration to achieve heroic acts. Many heroes are considered role models as they make brave decisions attempting to do something extraordinary. Heroes often fight against the causes of evil as they try to make the environment a better place. Hercules (son of Zeus) is one of the many known Gods to Greek mythology. He is supernatural and immortal.
One characteristic of an epic hero is being powerful in someway and reflect the values of their culture while battling fearsome beings. I Think that Odysseus really embodies this trait. Ody is the King of Ithaca, when he is away at war on his way home, he is caught by Poseidon. Odysseus then has to go through many obstacles and fearsome beings. But during all of this, he is strong and still has his heart and eyes on getting home to Ithaca and ruling again.
A hero goes above and beyond to help others as well as themselves. Heroes complete the tasks given to them without excuses. A hero only tries to outdo no one but themselves. A person possessing heroic traits does not always get acknowledged. Heroic tasks cannot always be fought close to home.

Well the definition of an epic hero is, “a brave and noble character in an epic poem, admired for great achievements or affected by grand events. ”(Dictionary.com) If that doesn’t describe Odysseus, I don’t know what does. He risks his life in many circumstances, and he’s widely admired for being the one of the reasons the trojans won the war. He is also affected by lots of events throughout his adventures.
These abilities are important as a warrior because both his men and the hero reflect and are influenced by them. Some of the abilities are excellence in war, courage, leadership and fighting qualities. These qualities are seen through the heroic characters Hector and Achilles. When Achilles is not present with his men, the Greeks are well defeated by the Trojans with no motivation or support. Achilles is also described by his men as a power figure when the poem says “These were his words,/ and all Achaeans gave a roar of joy/ to hear the Prince abjure his rage.”
In grief Achilles wants to fight Hector for what he did. Hector has two choices, either to fight Achilles or hide behind the walls of Troy. Hector exclainms doubtedly “What shall I do? If I retreat behind these walls, … And now that I have ruined them all by my rashness, I am ashamed to face the men and women of Troy, or some base fellows may say-Hector thought too much of his own strength, and ruined us all!”
Homer underlines that this behavior is foul, for Achilles allows his soldiers to wound the body and then bounds Hector’s feet to his chariot in order to harm the body. Although Hector asked him to give his body to his family, Achilles ignores the last will of the dying Trojan hero because he is still obsessed with his revenge. One should remember that the Greeks believed it was the issue of primary importance to bury a person’s body in a decent way so that their spirit would find the sanctuary. In other words, Achilles takes revenge in the most horrible way
