Odysseus had to leave his family behind so he could go fight in the trojan war. The Trojan war lasted 10 years and it took Odysseus another 10 years to arrive home. The characters that hindered and helped Odysseus on his journey back to Ithaca were Athena, Poseidon, and Zeus. For starters, Athena is the goddess of war and wisdom and is the daughter of Zeus. Athena was aloud to use her fathers weapons like the lighting bolt, and she was symbolized as an owl. Athena was a Greek virgin goddess and showed a lot of bravery and loyalty to her father and to her people. Athena invented the bridle and was the patron saint of any city (Athena). Athena chose Odysseus because she thought the he was a great leader to his people in Ithaca. People say that Athena is also known for her strategic skill in warfare.
