Bobby Knight was a former head coach for Indiana University. Knight was a very successful coach for most of his time at this university. He was also known as having a long history of abuse and a violent temper on and off the court. Knight’s actions had been brought to the attention on the University. At first the University continued to let the coach handle things his own way. Like most organizations, when things started to get out of hand, they decide to take actions. As a result, Knight was placed on probation by the University and later fired for not following the terms of the probation. According to agency law, the University did follow the correct protocol. Knight was accused of trying to grab the throat of a player. Knight denied the allegations until a video of the incident was produced. The University had no choice and Knight was places on probation by the Indiana University trustees. The students could have sued Knight and the University for abuse among other things. After being warned several times, a confrontation between Knight and a student caused the school’s president to fire him as a result of Knight’s defiant and hostile behavior. Knight was fired because he violated a zero tolerance behavior policy that had been put in place. Knights contracted stated that he was to perform all the duties as head coach within the policies, rules, regulations and decisions of the Intercollegiate Conference of Faculty Representation and the National Collegiate Athletic Association. The contract also stated that if Knight failed in serious ways to comply with the employment agreement he could be discharged and then terminated by the University.
