Different in society The time was between the summer and fall in the 1930’s, during the Great Depression. The Finch family lived in Maycomb County, Alabama. To Kill a Mockingbird is a fictional narrative novel written by Harper Lee. It is a marvelous and unforgettable novel, not only dramatic, but sad and surprising too. Maycomb County is the setting with some big conflicts about politics that are critical to what is going on through this tired old southern town. Life in this town has good and bad situations to include education, friendship, neighbors but also specific to individuals. Family members blame each other as do the different races and the characters themselves. Class discrimination, also known as classism, is prejudice or discrimination against poor people. Aunt Alexandra tell Scout that you could not play with Walter Cunningham “Because-he-is-trash, That’s why you can’t play with him. I’II not have you around him, picking up his habits and learning Lord-knows-what. You’re enough of a problem to your father as it is.”(225) Aunt Alexandra tries to say that Walter had lower status than the Finch’s so if Scout plays with him, then she will learn bad work habits. She had some problem with her father.
