The 19th century was a triumphant time, at least for western culture. European armies were starting to march around the world, from Africa to Asia, conquering and colonizing. As a result, European industry grew enormously, the standard of living rose dramatically, but in the process, millions of people from non-western culture were either killed, injured, or dehumanized.
