Explain how different types of interventions can promote positive outcomes for children and young people where development is not following the expected pattern. As mentioned in task 7 there are different factors which contribute towards child’s development not follow expected pattern. Early identification of the problem put one in advantageous position to get early solution. Early intervention for children is made up of therapies and services.
Explain the reasons why children and young people’s development may not follow the expected pattern: The reasons why children and young people’s development may not follow the expected patters is due to them maybe having a disability, emotional influences, physical influences, environmental influences, cultural influences, social influences, learning needs and communication skills. Children with disabilities require a lot more support than those without a disability in order to help them develop their skills and become more independent. Disabilities can affect more than one area of a child’s development depending on what disability they have and what support is available in order to help improve the child’s needs etc. Emotionally children are affected due to them maybe having signs of depression where they are quiet than the rest of the children and they shy away from joining in with different activities and getting involved with other children.

This area focuses on how well the child has developed in confidence and how they relate with other children in a large group. Children who haven’t yet matured enough in this area will encounter personal and social hiccups in a school setting. This area comes as a barometer of how well they are able to manage their feelings. Physical development This area focuses on the physical well-being of a child and how well they respond to their day to day needs.

During this developmental interview, I chose to conduct an observation/interview study with my one of my cousin’s child. This child is a 4 year old girl and will be identified as “child K” in relation to her first name. Her parents had no problem letting me interview her, but I had them stay in the same room as us. The purpose of this interview was to observe the child’s physical, cognitive, and socioemotional development. I observed her behavior and gave her several tests to show how well she has progressed.
There are four types of development, physical, cognitive, emotional, and social. Physical development is the growth of gross and fine motor, skills. Gross motor skills are walking, running, throwing, and crawling. Fine motor skills are writing, holding a fork, and using scissors. Physical development is also the easiest to see.
As they go through this stage young people will begin to solve problems more easily and have an appreciation of other people’s views and opinions. However as they are still inexperienced in life a young person may appear immature at times with regards to their ways of thinking and speech. During the Emotional Development stage, a young person will begin to spend less time with their parents and want to spend more time with their friends socialising instead. A young person may also feel conflicted at times, as they will want the affection from parents, however this is usually short lived as the young person will then also reject it when it is given.
Each year, more and more students are coming to college to study. Colleges require some student to take developmental courses before students take their major class because colleges think these students may do not have enough basic knowledge to handle the major class. In Montgomery College, most students have to take developmental courses in the first semester. After that, these students are allowed to take their majors. However, not every student who took the developmental courses gets success in their majors.

In the contemporary times, great importance is given to the significance of early years of a child’s life. It is widely acknowledged now-a-days that the early childhood years are a predominantly receptive phase in the developmental process. This stage is responsible to lay a foundation in early days and later years for cognitive functioning, learning process, physical wellbeing, and self-regulatory capacities in both personal and social lives. In simple words, “the period from birth to age 5 is one of opportunity and vulnerability for healthy physical, emotional, social, and cognitive development” (Karoly, Kilburn & Cannon, 2005). However, it is also a fact that many children go through several stressors during their developmental years due to which their healthy development may be impaired.
According to developmental psychology a person at any age is at a certain stage of cognitive, moral, psychosocial, and physical development. This development is measured by different types of thinking, mental capacity for tasks, physical strength, and reasoning for following rules. Development is easily seen in children. Naturalistic observation is the one of the easiest method to see these developments in children. This is the observation technique I used, while watching a five year old male at Kindercare Daycare at 3:30 on a Friday.
These people are both at work and in their personal lives. These people seem to make the most out of life dealing well with problems. As the early years foundation stage includes PSE development as a prime area of learning and development emphasises the link between personal characteristics and the ability to learn. Social Development, Siraj – Blatchford and Clarke (2000p9) reinforce that view, they underline the importance of cognitively can only occur when : The child needs to be in a state of emotional wellbeing and feel secure.
The Collaborative for Academic, Social and Emotional Learning (CASEL, 2003) defines social-emotional learning (SEL) as the process of developing students’ knowledge, attitudes and skills required to manage emotions, build healthy relationships, possess empathy and make decisions. Social-emotional skills are essential for working with others, achieving goals and reducing anti-social behaviors. CASEL has identified five connected sets of competencies in social Emotional leaning: social-awareness (understand others feelings and sympathy), self-awareness (recognizing emotions), self-management (controlling emotions and impulses), and making-decisions (problem solving), and relationship skills (communication). Social emotional learning goes beyond teaching children subject areas; it encourages children recognize their ability “to integrate thinking, feeling and, behaving to achieve important life tasks” (Zins et al., 2004, p. 194).
Throughout this course of four weeks, my perspective of child development has changed drastically in this short amount of time. This was my first class that was related to child development and there was a lot of material that was important to learn and understand. I came to this class with not much knowledge, but I am definitely leaving this class with an abundance of information that I will be able to use in my career or just in general. Discontinuous Within the process of child development, my view is based upon that is children are constantly growing through stages which is a discontinuous process.
