There are many options for high school sports. Many people think football is one of the best. Football is an amazing sport and your coaches will teach you many things. Football is a fun sport that many people like to play. Although some worry that high school football isn’t safe, I believe it is when proper safety measures are followed.
Safety gear protects you when you get hit. BAM! You just got hit hard in the head, luckily you had your helmet on. Last Sunday, Josh McCown was running into the endzone for a touchdown, and out of nowhere, he collided with another player. Both of their heads hit each other, but since they both had helmets on they were fine. If neither of them were wearing a helmet they could’ve been dead. You wear a helmet to protect you from big hits to the head. It reduces the amount of head injuries in football. Shoulder pads are worn to protect your shoulders, neck, spine, chest, and your collarbone. Without these a dead hit to the spine can paralyze you. An offensive player can have this called on him as well as a defensive player. This is to protect the receiver when he is trying to catch the football. If you hit a player and you are a defensive back or a receiver and aren’t trying to catch the football or looking at it then this will be called on you, you will receive a fifteen yard penalty from the spot of the foul. For example if you are at your own thirty and you have this called on you at the thirty-five, then the ball will be moved to fifty.
