The government has complete authority over us. The government controls what we watch, consume, and even buy. Surveillance is everywhere; people cannot enter a building without being monitored by a concealed camera. The same thing occurs in Fahrenheit 451 and The Giver. This happens everywhere but especially in the United States. Fahrenheit 451 and The Giver show that things can get bad fast when the government hides too much information.

Indeed, the government, in our society and The Giver, is always watching us. For example, when individuals search for things on the internet, sooner or later, they get ads about that same thing. The government does a lot more listening than we think. (The Heritage Foundation). This quote clearly shows that the market is working as intended; in other words, when the consumers asked for nutritional information, they did not get it. Instead, they got employees who knew about the information. In Fahrenheit 451, they keep information away from their citizens as well. They take away books from their society to make people stupider so they can control them. Specifically, Beatty, a person that essentially is the government's spokesperson, says, "The books are to remind us what asses and fools we are" (Bradbury 82). This is a lie because reading majorly improves test scores and many other things, but when the government says things like this, more people believe
