Hamlet: Act 1
The first act of Hamlet sets the stage for the play. In this act, we learn of Claudius’ act of poisoning his brother to marry the queen and to gain the powers acquired with being king, Hamlet’s feelings for Queen Gertrude, his mother, and King Claudius, his uncle and we see the likeness of the royal family and the family of Polonius, Laertes and Ophelia. Revealing himself as a ghost, King Hamlet divulges the information of his murder to the younger Hamlet and urges the younger Hamlet to seek revenge on Claudius. In Hamlet, Act 1, scene 2, Hamlet reveals his feelings about Gertrude and Claudius. Hamlet doesn’t feel that Claudius is a father to him, stating “My father’s brother, but no more like my father
