Act 1, Scene 1: “Let us impart what we have seen tonight Unto young Hamlet, for, upon my life, This spirit, dumb to us, will speak to him” (Crowther 16). I think this quote really sets up things for the next act, and the rest of the play. The ghost would not talk to them, so they decided to tell Hamlet about the ghost because they felt it would talk to him. This sets up Hamlet to discover the ghost who is his late father, and learn about his murder. Act 1, Scene 2: “Together with all forms, moods, shapes of grief, That can denote me truly” (Crowther 24).
At the beginning of Act 1 of William Shakespeare's play Hamlet, Claudius conveys himself as a bad father to Hamlet because he only cares about himself and how to move up in the kingdom. Hamlet’s father has died less than two months ago and he is still grieving. His mother and Claudius on the other hand are getting married and celebrating his coronation. Claudius does not acknowledge Hamlet until after his celebrations. Hamlet does not show any emotion about the wedding or coronation which makes Claudius feel like he does not care about him or his mother.
Hamlet's soul desire was to kill his uncle Claudius, to avenge his father's death(Acts 1-5). Hamlet’s desire for revenge starts out a just pure anger, but as his desire grows he dips into a state of madness (Acts 1-5). Hamlet really goes mad in the drama when he kills Polonius (Act 4 scene 3-4). Hamlet's attempts to avenge his father's death plays out in many stalemates until the end. The final scene in the drama has many of the main characters meeting their untimely deaths and we see Hamlet's plan to kill his uncle finally occur(Act 5 scene 2).
Act I would have been less effective if it had opened with the enactment of the actual murder of the king. By opening the play at midnight with a group of watchman on an ominous guard who encounters an apparition sets the scene to be mysterious. Through the use of foreshadowing, Shakespeare sets up the next few scenes in Act I to establish that something is awry with the new monarchy, Hamlet’s resentment towards his uncle and new found king helps implement the setup of wrong doing. After hearing news that his father’s ghost walks the night, Hamlet obviously wants to see it. After waiting with the guard at the witching hour, the ghost appears and beckons Hamlet to follow it.
The play begins by having Hamlet's uncle marry Hamlet's recently-widowed mother in order to become the new King of Denmark. Hamlet, while mourning the death of this father, is disappointed at his mothers lack of loyalty at the same time. The guards of Denmark's Elsinore castle see a ghost that resembles Hamlet's deceased father and decide to tell Hamlet. In act 1 scene 5 the ghost appears to Hamlet, stating that he is the ghost of his father, and that Hamlet's uncle murdered him. This is a huge turning point in the play as Hamlet swears vengeance for his father.

The last act starts with the conversation of Hamlet and Horatio with the gravedigger, which is shown to be a comic relief from the tragedies happening. Then, later on, in Ophelia’s burial the priests makes it seem like a suicide and not surprisingly makes Laertes mad about it. This was because he loved his sister very much and has lost her forever. In addition, we learn how Hamlet escaped the trip to England and reveals his true intentions of killing King Claudius. Which leads up to the match against Laertes and as everyone arrives Gertrude drinks the poisoned cup even though Claudius told her not to.
Hamlet himself is characteristically indecisive of what role to play as is seen in his "to be or not to be" monologue (3.1). On another note, Hamlet appears to be the only one grieving for his late father. Claudius assumed the throne and carried on as king, Hamlet 's mother remarried and carried on as queen. Hamlet even acknowledges "how/ cheerfully [his] mother looks" (3.2.116-117) so soon after his father 's death. Hamlet 's grief juxtaposed with the lack of grief in the other characters serves to alienate him from the world around him, as briefly mentioned before.
When Hamlet is assured by the ghost of his father, that Claudius was the cause
When Hamlet meets with the ghost King Hamlet in the opening scene, he realizes that his father is murdered by Claudius. From Act I scene 5, the ghost King Hamlet is asking Hamlet to seek for revenge, “So art thou to revenge, when thou shalt hear” (1.5.12). By knowing this, Hamlet starts the revenge for his father and sets the tone of the entire play where death, revenge, murder, and suicide become the symbols of the whole play, and leads to the deaths of almost all the characters, including Claudius, Laertes, Polonius, Ophelia, Queen Gertrude, Rosencrantz, Guildenstern, and Hamlet himself. Also, because of his father’s death and his mother’s quick marriage with Claudius, Hamlet has the idea of committing suicide. From Act I scene 2, "O, that this too sullied flesh would melt,Thaw, and resolve itself to dew" (1.2.133-134).
Firstly, Hamlet is a play of a man by the name of Hamlet, whose father was murdered by Claudius, his uncle. Claudius murdered the king by pouring poison in his ear to claim the throne for himself. Hamlet is then told by a ghost to murder Claudius for revenge, and he struggles within himself for the length of play whether to do it or not. When Hamlet begins to hesitate it does more damage than good and causes a chain reaction of tragic events, and makes the readers question whether Hamlet is truly sane or not. Claudius’s corruptness begins to show when he uses his authority to order those around him to rid of Hamlet.
Over the course of Hamlet, many of the main characters engage in role play as a mechanism to achieve their own interests. Prince Hamlet is one of these characters, and his act proves to be one of the most important aspects of the play. Throughout the play, role-play (especially Hamlet’s) significantly affects the plot, and ultimately strains the relationships between several characters. Hamlet is among one of the most important characters to engage in role play. In act one, scene 5, shortly after being told that Claudius killed his father, Hamlet tells Horatio and Marcellus that he plans to feign madness, and he says, “As I, perchance, hereafter shall think meet to put an antic disposition
In act one Gertrude marries her dead husband 's brother Claudius, Hamlet is not very happy that his mother did this. Hamlet feels very betrayed by his own mother because she remarried so quickly. He feels as if this is an unforgivable
After the sighting of the ghost, Shakespeare introduces a grieving Hamlet, and the happy couple, Claudius and Gertrude. Claudius gives a rousing speech to the court which creates a supporting group for his rule, yet he still can not get Hamlet to fall in line with the rest of the crowd. Old Hamlet’s murder still preoccupies Hamlet’s mind, so Claudius decides to take a drastic measure to win Hamlet to his side. Claudius states to the entire court and Hamlet that, “[He is] the most immediate to our throne, and with no less nobility of love than that which dearest father bears his son do I impart to [him]” (Hamlet 1.2 113-116). By naming Hamlet as his heir, Claudius sets up the ending of the play perfectly.

The timeless classic tells the tale of Prince Hamlet, who discovers that his mother had wed his uncle, two months prior to his father’s passing. He visits the throne in Denmark because he is disgusted at the act of incest, where the ghost of his deceased father confronts him, insisting that he was murdered by Claudius, the new king. Hamlet is enraged, and he becomes obsessed with the idea of proving the crime so that he can obtain revenge against Claudius (Crowther). Despite the myriad of themes that circulate throughout the Shakespearean play, many do not realize one hidden yet extensive theme: actions and their consequences.
