Jacob Lawrence was an artist; I am doing a critique about Jacob Lawrence’s art about the Great Migration. The Great Migration was one of the biggest movements where, African Americans migrated from the Southern states to the North, West, and Midwest states from 1910s until the 1970s in America. There were about 6 million African Americans that were a part of the Great Migration. Jacob Lawrence was trying to give a perspective about the Great Migration in his art that other people were not viewing the Great Migration from. Jacob Lawrence showed in some of his paintings how bad things were for African Americans during WWI. It shows that African Americans were not the richest, so they suffered because had doubled in price because of the war. Not only were African Americans suffering because of inflation, but the African Americans in the South not only had no justice, but there were also many lynchings and tenant farmers got harsh treatment at the hand of planters. After all of that was happening Jacob Lawrence showed in his paintings that African Americans started to speed up migrations. Then towards the end of the 60 paintings that Jacob Lawrence made he shows in his paintings that after the Great Migration African Americans were treated better in the South. I think that Jacob Lawrence"s art was fabulous. The way that Jacob Lawrence put everything together in his paintings so perfectly is what makes his art so unique. One thing that makes Jacob Lawrence"s artwork so baffling is that he tries to show a perspective that is so unique that you would have never thought about that perspective until you saw the actual
