Because of the chaotic environment Jeanette grew up in, her growth as an individual was accelerated. Jeanette was forced to compensate for her family’s shortcomings by taking responsibility for her choices. Although, Jeanette often times resented her mother, Rose Mary showed Jeanette many valuable life lessons. Through her selfish deeds, she taught Jeanette how to be responsible and self-sufficient. She also showed Jeanette the beauty behind imperfection. Jeanette’s ambivalent attitude towards her Dad allowed her to mature beyond him.
