Armando Sanchez September 20, 2024 Alec and Allie’s AH Class Macbeth Reading/AE Assessment Part 1: I chose to analyze Act 2, Scene 2, from Shakespeare’s the Tragedy of Macbeth. Throughout this scene, it is noticed that Macbeth is hallucinating. This hallucination was of a knife, which Macbeth had attempted to reach for, but his hand passed right through it. Consequently, Macbeth begins questioning if his eyes are the only good sense, or the only sense that is not working properly, which is shown in the quote, “Mine eyes are made the fools o’ the other senses, or else worth all the rest.” Furthermore, Macbeth takes the vision of the dagger as guidance, or an object that marshals him towards his goal. Furthermore, this theme is shown when Macbeth decides that he will kill Duncan, when he says, “While I threat, he lives, words to the heat of deeds too cold breath gives.” This phrase represents Macbeth holding on to his sanity, as it means, that if Macbeth talks about killing Duncan too much, he will be unable to due to the guilt. Part B: Annotation of monologue Personification: “For fear thy very stones prate of my whereabouts.” During this part of Macbeth’s monologue, while Macbeth is striding towards Duncan’s room, there was a literary device of personification. Particularly the phrase, “For fear thy very stones prate of my whereabouts.” This phrase personifies the stones in the ground as being able to prate or talk about the direction in which Macbeth is headed.
