Different types and colors of clothes worn by Romans who lived in Ancient Rome and visited Colosseum. The clothes were worn by the Emperors, Senators, Soldiers, Roman citizens, slaves, the women, the Vestal Virgins and Gladiators. Roman-clothing for men and roman sumptuary law The first clothing for men were toga and tunic. The tunic is underwear that inside the toga. There were several types of toga and each type mean different purpose and symbolism. Roman Sumptuary laws were specific laws which compel which type of clothes to be worn by.It also include type of material and fabrics that used to make, the style that allowed to wear.Toga was only for the Emperor and its color was purple. The clothes that men wore reflected their social status. Roman-clothing for women, the stola Clothing of men and women were very similar. First women wore the toga same as men, but women who married wore different stola, which had a broad fringe that reaching to feet. Prostitutes and women that commit adultery, were not allowed to wear stola. Different from the toga that men wore, the stola only carry the marital status of women. The stola was a symbol of marriage freely declaring her respectability and adherence to traditions. The stola did not show social classes for women.
