Teddy Bear Memento is about a man named Leonard who suffers from anterograde amnesia looking for the man “John G” that raped and killed his wife. During the story, it introduces many characters in an odd format. One character sticks out more than the others. He goes by the name “Teddy” but his real name is John Gamel (John G). Teddy plays a significant role in this movie because throughout the movie viewers cannot seem to grasp whether he is the villain of the story or not. Teddy’s role is so crucial to the story; because, he assists in a killing, sets Leonard up for killing someone during a drug deal, and in the end, confesses the truth behind all the stories. Firstly, Teddy is crucial to the story because he assists Leonard in killing the man that raped and murdered his wife. Teddy is an undercover cop who was assigned to the case of Leonard’s wife. So, after Leonard kills Jimmy, Teddy comes in and see’s Jimmy dead on the floor and helps Leonard by dragging Jimmy down the stairs. Leonard is unaware who Teddy is now and is pushing him up against a wall questioning him. While this happens Teddy cracks and tells Leonard the truth about everything that has been going on. Teddy confesses to Leonard that he’s already helped him kill the first John G hoping that it would bring him peace. Then, he tells him that Sammy Jenkins story was actually his story. His wife was the diabetic one and put him up to the test to see if he would remember giving her, her insulin already. His wife survived the attack and she was never murdered and that it was Leonard that killed her with the insulin.
