PART 1 - Summary

The book belly up by Stuart Gibbs, takes place in a zoo based theme park in Texas, called “FunJungle.” Teddy Fitzroy, the main character, is an average 12 year old boy. Except he lives with his parents that work at the park located in the middle of Texas with no other civilization that is nearby. On one boiling hot summer day, one of the security guard named Marge O’Malley which Teddy calls her “Large Marge” because of her size, gets called over to one of the exhibits due to a code red, when she gets there she finds out something terrible has happened.

At Hippo River, they came to realize Henry the Hippo had died and had gone belly up. All the staff were surprised this happened, but for the tourists, they thought Henry was sleeping upside down. Teddy and Summer first they thought that someone must of thrown something harmful into Henry’s mouth, because tourists always threw objects into his mouth. On the day J.J McCraken (The CEO of the park) arrived at the park, Teddy told his daughter, Summer McCraken all about what happened, she didn’t believe him at first but after more convincing she actually wanted to help out. So they first began by exploring the actual Hippo River to see if there was any evidence of what killed him. After all their exploring they found a jack that, had been sharpened, which they assumed that’s what killed Henry.
