Have you ever seen the movie Beowulf? Have you ever read the story Beowulf? Well Beowulf was a prince and soon became a heroic king? Beowulf fought and slayed giant monsters and dragons. Beowulf was well known and well loved by everybody. Beowulf was a hero. The textbook and the movie have many differences, such as, Hrothgar’s suicide, Grendel’s attack, and Grendel being Hrothgar’s son. According to the movie Hrothgar’s committed suicide; however, in the textbook Hrothgar’s died of old age. In the movie Hrothgar’s committed suicide after Beowulf successfully killed Grendel. Beowulf was giving everything handed down from the king to him because he was the only one that successfully killed Grendel. In the textbook Hrothgar’s died of old age. In the movie Grendel attacked Beowulf while he was awake, and in the textbook Grendel attacked him while he was sleeping. Grendel attacked Beowulf while he was awake at night. With Beowulf strength he was able to devour Grendel without any help. Grendel attacked Beowulf while he was sleeping and still was able to devour him. In the movie Grendel was Hrothgar’s son; however, in the textbook Grendel was a descendent of Cain. Grendel was Hrothgar’s son in the movie because he slept with Grendel’s mom.
