But do we know who they were way before they discovered their true passion for 2-D Dimensional Design? We’ll be exploring their personalities and discovering just how different, their designs are. Both artists are also from different parts of the world and all of their artwork has been in many museums. Henri Matisse was born on December 31, 1869 in Le Chateau-Cambresis, France. Henri came up with naming the artwork “Promenade among the Olive Trees”. For design elements, Henri has done all of them in one artwork. The artwork contained a lot of lines, shapes, texture, pattern, a little bit of space, motion, and lots of colors. But as for the design principles, he only added the focal point, balance, and rhythm as a way to put more depth and thoughts into his artwork. In 1951, Henri decided to make an artwork and call it “Snow Flowers”. Snow Flowers has provided so many key elements that were easy to spot and look at. The artwork itself had a lot of the design elements from lines all the way to color. As for design principles, Henri became more focused on balance, focal point, and rhythm. There were no scales, proportions, unity and variety, and emphasis. She wanted to paint a flower that had a meaning and wanted to focus on a type of season. Georgia quickly fell in love with a flower for her painting and named her painting “Black Iris”. Black Iris had so much depth because of different color schemes, some lines were chosen, Georgia chose her shapes wisely, texture quickly blended with the colors, and created some motion and space to make the iris look more like a still life painting. Along with the elements, Georgia wanted to challenge herself with design principles in her painting. Georgia focused on adding balance, the focal point, and rhythm to bring a little action to her work. However, scales, proportions, unity and variety, and emphasis didn’t quite fit in with her painting.
