Lewis and Clark’s expedition was a bit different from Pike’s. While Lewis and Clark were exploring the northern part of the Louisiana Purchase, Pike on the other hand was exploring the southern parts. Throughout Lewis and Clark’s expedition they were able to make a connection with the native tribes. By becoming friends with the Natives this showed Lewis and Clark the land that the US would start moving into. During their expedition they cataloged 108 botanical and zoological specimens, 68 mineral specimens, as well as Clark’s map of the US.

Lewis and Clark were known for an incredible journey that changed US history. The journey increased the size of the US dramatically. From May 14, 1804, to September 23, 1806, a dangerous but yet history changing exploration occurred. Through many dangerous situations and hardships, the expedition of Lewis and Clark turned out a success.
It was thomas jefferson's newly owned land and his will to explore it he decided to send explorers across it in which he named the corps of discovery. The heads of the group were Meriwether Lewis and William Clark. When starting the expedition meriwether lewis bought many gifts for the indians such as beads, coats, fabrics, and hats that could hopefully help convince the indians to be relatively good friends with the explorers and our country. When the expedition started exploring in 1803 they started down the Mississippi river on three ships and didn’t run into any american indians. as they traveled they learned about many new things such as minerals and plants so far unknown to science and eventually sent a care package back to president Jefferson on one of the three ships to show him all the new scientific discoveries that the expedition had made.
The Lewis and Clark expedition marked the first American expedition to cross what is now the western portion of the United States. The expedition occurred from the Louisiana Purchase which allowed Jefferson to turn away from his strict ideals of the Constitution to pull through with this purchase for the country's good. The Louisiana Purchase managed strong support by many Americans which lead to the Lewis and Clark expedition. The expeditions leaders were Captain Meriwether Lewis and Lieutenant William Clark who set out from St. Louis in 1804 and reached the Oregon coast on the Pacific Ocean. The two explorers turned back and completed the return journey in 1806.

During his time as governor Lewis did many things, he oversaw the creation of the Territory of Arkansas, and he ordered for the creation of a road connecting St. Louis and New Madrid, Missouri (Harper).
