Foreign policy wise, Nixon, while still in office, began to follow Realpolitik, a policy that allowed him to create relationships with both the Soviet Union and China because it no longer required morality to be a considering factor. This change in foreign policy caused concern for Americans because of the fear of communism.
Nixon wanted to end the war just like every other American. He had many plans for this war and one of them was called Vietnamization. Vietnamization was a policy that would replace U.S. troops with South Vietnamese troops and supply them with supplies and weapons (Rubel 182). It was a way to retreat U.S. troops and end involvement in the war. Even though he ended involvement in the Vietnam War by withdrawing U.S. troops, he decided to bomb enemy forces in Cambodia (Lillegard 71).
With the US military helping South Vietnam against the North Vietnam. The South Vietnam didn’t not feel like they had support under the Western’s power, which South Vietnam didn’t because Nixon was trying to help the South Vietnam, but no involving US soldiers to fight in the war. Although, Nixon made the Vietnamization policy to stop US involvement it cause more of a uprise for the US position in the war. The New Economic policy and Nixon Doctrine both policies made by Nixon was only towards his presidency and not actually stopping the US involvement. Nixon said it would make a change in the US involvement to better but instead Nixon didn’t follow up upon his campaign promises.
Clinton's life was highly different than Nixon’s, however, some of his political turmoil and successes was similar to Nixon’s. Bill Clinton was born William Jefferson Blythe to William Blythe and Virginia Blythe on August 19, 1946, in Hope, Arkansas; however, his dad died a few months before he was born. Later, when Bill was about four, his mother married Roger Clinton. Roger was a heavy alcoholic who often beat Bill's mother. Like Nixon he experienced a large amount of death and violence.
Richard Nixon is the 37th president of the United States and a very controversial one at that. President Nixon was best known for his biggest failures as a result of how bad they were. Nixon had been connected to the Watergate Scandal. It was several burglars who had been arrested in the office of the Democratic National Committee, located in Washington, D.C.The prowlers had been connected to President Nixon’s reelection campaign where they had been stealing important documents. Nixon aggressively took action in order to cover the crime.
Carter’s idealist approach to foreign policy would be very much different than Nixon’s approach and relationship with the Soviets. During his presidency, Carter wanted to move away from the single emphasizes of the Soviet Union in foreign policy which had offended and confused the Soviets. One focus for the Carter administration in their foreign policy was human rights. During the Nixon administration, human rights were seen more acceptable in domestic politic, but not foreign policy. Carter’s administration had an opposite view as one focus for the Carter administration was the promotion of global human rights.
In contrast, Americans believed that Nixon was a very strong and straight-forward leader who would be able to secure “peace with honor”. By 1972, most of U.S. troops were released without appearing to have given into the Communists through Nixon’s strategy of Vietnamization. This helped the positive outlook on Nixon, and the negative outlook on McGovern. Richard Nixon also campaigned with his plan called “southern strategy”. This plan involved releasing pressure off the desegregation of schools and restricting acts of the federal government on behalf of the blacks.

The Vietnam and Iraq war, two wars during drastically different time periods and drastically different circumstances, but still have many similarities. Of course there are obvious comparisons such as the location of the two countries or the number of casualties, but looking beyond these allows for a better understanding of these two wars. For example, The United States had a completely different goal when entering the Vietnam war compared to the Iraq war. In the Iraq war, the US only wanted to defend South Vietnam, but In Iraq the US wanted to start and support a new government. Another thing to keep in mind is the drastic difference in the length of these wars.
On one hand he worked to improve the society and he managed it by expanding federal programs to improve society. He also tried to improve the economy using deficit spending and also proposed a minimum income for every American. On the other hand Nixon was very paranoiac and often used the government agencies to spy on the people who he thought were his enemies. The biggest scandal that ended his political career was the Watergate Cover-up. Although he wasn't directly involved, he didn't distance himself but he chose to cover it up.
Nixon was known for his strict conservative views and efforts to improve relations with China and the Soviet Union.
He increased the number of forces in South Vietnam. The war escalated then he decided to not run for reelection. Nixon used the war to his advantage. He promised to find a way to end the Vietnam War, pledging America would have “peace with honor”. Now he had to uphold this promise and implement a plan, but it didn’t work.
Being known for his foreign policy acted as a personal goal of Nixon during his presidency. Which at first glance looks like a positive thing but once you dive deeper into what his real motives are, it's rather eye opening. Let's start with the war on crime. During this time you had the black panthers who were people fighting for civil rights, people who were fighting for women's rights, and people who were fighting for gay rights. Nixon felt the need to fight against these movements and therefore one was more likely to get arrested for attending these rallies— for committing a crime which really wasn't a crime. He strategically blinded the public to this by calling it "the war on crime".
