High school. It's a scary thought. Being prepared for things can be hard. Especially the changes that happened within one's identity. Imagine something terrible happened the summer before high school.
When a young writer begins to gain interest in writing biographies and political figure this is a perfect book. Harness is so graceful in her writing, the way she can keep a book so simple, but still allowing herself to get the point across to the reader. Harness does an outstanding job in the way she only writes the important information of an individual's life. Harness does not like to write about little details about the person’s life, but instead just the significant parts. This way of writing would be great for a student in middle or high school writing a report or biography, using the K.I.S.S method, “keep it simple
Book report I've read the book Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson. The book is about the teenage girl Melinda, who has just started Merryweather High. She knew from the beginning that she wouldn't fit in, that she wouldn't be one of the popular girls. Every one hates her after what happened during summer, her previous friends don't want to know nothing about Melinda anymore and the rumours about her aren't so positive either. She will forever be the girl who called the police in the middle of the party and no one bothered to look up the reason behind the call.
The story touches on things such as poverty, alcoholism, bullying, abuse, etc. It is an extremely eye-opening, humbling book that shows you that you can change your life around no matter how you were raised. This book is relatable to many people, including children and teenagers who are or may have gone through some of the same things that Jeannette and her siblings did. The theme that most resonated with me while reading the book was alcoholism. It is something that has been a part of my family life for a long time.
The theme of self growth and isolation can be seen throughout the novel Speak (1999) by Laurie Halse Anderson, which follows the main protagonist, Melinda Sordino through her freshman year. When Melinda is first introduced, she mentions a secret that she is afraid to talk to anyone about. Melinda later reveals to the readers that she was raped by a high school senior at an end of summer party. Everyone at school acts hostile towards Melinda for calling the cops and ruining what was the best night of their lives, unbeknown to them, that night still haunts her dreams. This causes Melinda to become isolated from everyone, as they only see her as the freak who called the cops.
The author, Sarah B. Pomeroy, writes this book in a style that resembles a textbook with many examples. She structures it in a timeline chronologically telling the events and breaking up the subject matter. The book lacked personality, although she had strong opinions that came through when writing the book, the style of writing lacked personality and was hard to read at times. The subject matter I found very interesting, considering it correlated with my class currently. At times, while I read this book, I found myself angry with men because of their brutal and thoughtfulness of women.

In the novel Speak, by Laurie Halse Anderson, Melinda is the main character in the novel and is affected by sexual assault herself. Melinda is one of the 5 to 20 percent who stay silent after she was sexually assaulted by who Melinda calls “IT”, Andy Evans. Anderson uses trees as motifs to support the theme of how Melinda’s social life is as the school year progresses.
This novel was exceptionally peculiar, which made the book nearly impossible to predict and held my attention until the very end. Matthew Quick was able to write a story I could easily relate to because of my passion towards basketball and common hardships teenagers endure. Moreover, frequent scenarios within the novel showed realistic struggles within violence that are very relatable and realistic in the 21st century. For instance, the internal struggles of high schoolers such as jealousy and trying to fit in. On top of this, it was astounding to see all three dynamic characters, Russ, Erin, and Finley develop throughout the story, as all three grew their friendship and learned from one another leaving you breathless.
One incident over night could damage someone's whole life. Also could potentially scare them for a long period of time. Melinda is a character in Laurie Anderson book. Melinda had gotten raped, which makes her not want to talk to anyone. Melinda feels as if she has no one to go to, not even her parents or friends.
It is never good to be judge a book by its cover. This is also applies to people. We cannot judge someone or know everything about a person just by looking at them. We do not know what they have been through, their struggles and life experiences. The novel, Speak written by Laurie H. Anderson, is about a girl name Melinda Sordino, who is a rape victim and a freshman in highschool.
I enjoyed reading this book. It is about a young high school student named Stargirl who is incredibly misunderstood. It contains a great message about individuality and standing up for yourself against tremendous peer pressure to conform to who others think you should be. Stargirl is an eccentric, kind, and gentle person who does not conform to the same set of values as the typical student at Mica High School. She is more concerned about connecting with the universe than she is with relating to the other students at school.

In this story, we explore the life of Melinda Sordino, a fourteen-year-old girl who is beginning high school right after experiencing an utterly traumatic event: rape. Melinda is left friendless, with no one to help and support her after what happened.
Isolation is when one is set apart from others and is virtually alone. In Laurie Anderson’s Speak, the protagonist, Melinda, isolates herself and is further isolated from others. Isolation can be seen through three symbols: lips, mirrors and a closet. Melinda thinks no one cares about what she has to say, resulting in silence. After the incident in the summer, Melinda cannot bare to look at herself.
This novel talks about the life in America during those times back in 1937 how many people struggled to live. Many people during those days lost their jobs. There was no welfare state or unemployment benefit. Disabled or old people had to depend on their families or charity and keep working for as long as they could. Everyone was so competitive in order to get a job.
So one can only imagine this is what it was somewhat like going through a war with little money and being a woman. Each character came together in the book to make a family, a huge dysfunctional, but loving family. This book was a very moving book for someone who know what it is like to have a family member in the military. It is a general loving book.
