In the play "A Raisin in the Sun" by Lorraine Hansberry, our character, Walter, wants to be the head of the family, but the choices he makes are stopping him from achieving his goal in the end because he is not earning the trust of his other family members.

At the start, we can see Walter waking up and going to talk to his wife, where he begins to argue with her about the money. starting with asking about the money on page 26. "Check coming today?" Walter can't get his mind off money because he wants to make a business deal. He becomes enraged when Ruth disagrees with him and begins to argue with her. On page 34, we can see that he is fighting with her; we can see this when he says, "We one group of men tied to a race of women with small minds!" He seems to get angry at everything and reacts to obstacles in a poor manner, choosing to yell at them. We see this again when he yells at Ruth, saying, "DAMN MY EGGS–DAMN ALL THE EGGS THAT EVER WAS!" This shows how he reacts to Ruth saying that the check is Mama’s money because he would like to use the money to invest …show more content…

He starts to react calmer in order to seem like the head of the family, and he starts to reason with people. In the end, we can see that he reasons with people. In this quote, on page 148, it says, "And we have decided to move into our house because my father—my father– he earned it for us brick by brick." We don’t want to make no trouble for nobody or fight no causes and we will try to be good neighbors and that's all we got to say about that. We don't want your money." We see that he tries to reason with him and remain calmer in order to establish that he's the head of the family. Also, instead of yelling at people, he tries to scare them in order to get what he wants (on page 147). "My father almost beat a man to death once because this man called him a bad name or something, you know what I mean?" We see this clearly when he's talking with Mr.
