Many Americans have the freedom of choosing what they consume. However, in many cases, improper nutritional habits have been leading to numerous health consequences. Though the freedom to choose what you purchase and eat should be remained as a priority, there are ways to make changes without manipulating this granted freedom. The single largest contributing source, to the nutrition caused “health crisis” in America, has been the fast food industry. A solution to this that may be successful, is to pass laws on these fast food companies. This idea has been opposed in the past with the concept that restricting rights on fast food would decrease freedom for both the industry and the consumers. Yet, if a law was passed that stated, all fast food products sold could only be sold with the conditions, that all nutritional facts and risks are listed as a customer resource, then the average citizen would have reduced health risks …show more content…

Big industries do have the right to produce and support the fast food industry, but the problem is on the other side. The support for the small farmers. Smaller farmers that try to produce better, healthier crops and livestock, often and forced out of business because of bigger companies. If a law was passed saying, any lawsuit against a small farmer would have to be aiding the farmer from the incorporation filing the suit by at least fifty percent of what is supporting the big incorporation, than small farmers would be more protected and we would have supported healthier suppliers. But last, a problem too unrecognized today, is children’s education about nutrition and fast food. Starting from a young age children are being targeted by fast food companies with advertising and product placement. If companies spend millions of dollars to mis-inform or brainwash children, the government should be able to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars to provide education that will change the child's
