Buddha once said, “On life’s journey faith is nourishment, virtuous deeds are a shelter, wisdom is the light by day and right mindfulness is the protection by night. If a man lives a pure life, nothing can destroy him.” This famous quote by Buddha means that no matter what happens along the journey, the hero will finish strong. Nothing will destroy or break down the hero. In The Odyssey written by Homer and Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone directed by Chris Columbus, the main characters both go on long journeys and even after several difficult tasks, they still finish the journey without giving up. The Odyssey and Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone are both examples of the hero's journey. Both Harry Potter and Odysseus leave home and their families for a long adventure, and they both have a supernatural aid who is a lot of help to the heroes in each of their journeys. In The Odyssey, Odysseus leaves Ithaca to fight in the Trojan War. He was there for ten years, and then took a long ten-year journey back home because he was lost at sea and encountered many obstacles. Since Odysseus has been away from home so long, he was desperate to return home to his family and his kingdom. In Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, Harry Potter was also away from his home for a long time. Hagrid came to the Dursleys home on Harrys eleventh birthday, and invites him to Hogwarts.
