The suspenseful 2001 war film, directed by Michael Bay, Pearl Harbor, is based on historical events from World War II. This film follows the friendship between Rafe McCawley (Ben Affleck) and Danny Walker (Josh Hartnett) up until the bombing of Pearl Harbor. When love tries to divide the two friends apart, one is sent to war and one is set to stay. New relationships come forward before the surprise attack, by the Japanese, on the island of Hawaii, a day that will live in infamy. The movie, Pearl Harbor, is suspenseful and intense, in terms of the plot, and engaging characters, but is highly inaccurate in many different aspects.

The scenes leading up to the war are intense because it shows both countries and their demeanor during the time period. It shows Japan preparing to bomb Pearl Harbor while the people of Hawaii are partying and distracted with many things, making them clueless about the conflicts that are about to happen. The characters throughout the film do a fantastic job of showing emotions and helping to make the scenes suspenseful and intense. They make the love story portrayed throughout the movie intense and leave viewers with many different emotions. There are many historical inaccuracies, and the main inaccuracy was the radar technology that was used was far too advanced for its time period. The planes used were correct, but the roles of the fighter pilots were wrong. Rafe and Danny were fighter pilots but in the Doolittle raid, they took on the roles of bomber pilots, which in real life would never happen. The movie does have accuracies, but not enough to make it a historically accurate movie. Some of the accuracies include the parties being held on the night before the bombing, the pacific fleet in the bay of Pearl Harbor, and the Kamikaze suicide pilots from Japan. This film is a great movie that shows immense amounts of suspenseful and intense scenes but is filled with historical inaccuracies, therefore making it a Hollywood movie to bring in revenue and not inform people of the history of Pearl
