The Hound of the Baskervilles, follows a young man trying to figure out a mystery that has been plaguing a family for years. This chilling story twists and turns throughout it’s 104 pages. In this novel, author Arthur Conan Doyle, focuses more on the adventures of Dr. Watson, to give a new exciting appeal to his books. He uses this mystery to entertain his readers from beginning to end. This mystery is dramatic and adventurous and has a great conclusion. In this book, instead of seeing the narration from Sherlock Holmes’ perspective, the author provides the reader from another angle, Dr. Watson. Sherlock Holmes and his partner Dr. Watson are highly popular detectives and are on the case. The book is set in the late 1800’s, around 1883, and in the month of November. Arthur Conan Doyle creates a suspenseful mood throughout the book, that goes along with the mystery aspect. The mystery adds up into the climax of finding out who has been killing the Baskervilles. It is Mr. Stapleton, the Baskervilles neighbor and one of the lost Baskerville sons. This is shown in the book when everyone had ruled out that it could have been a relative looking for the money. No one thought that the brother who went to South America married when in actuality he did marry and have a kid, Sir Charles, and the kid went on to kill to inherit the family money. The entire family, thinking that Sir Charles Sr. was dead, had not thought of the possibility. Thus proving that in a mystery case people should never rule out someone as “dead” unless there is concrete evidence proving that the person has passed away. Another theme in the book is that some people may not be who they seem. Everyone thought that Mr. Stapleton was the nice neighbor and he wasn’t part of the plan, but it was the opposite that was true. Up until the facts against Mr. Stapleton were stated, no one in the investigation thought that it was him but he planned the whole thing including the dog/ hound.
