Does surviving on an island on your own seem like a hard accomplishment? That is what the young survivors try to accomplish in the book Lord of the Flies, written by William Golding. In the novel, they let the signal fire burn out because of their lack of discipline. They did not cooperate as well which led to the disappearance of the scar-faced “littlun”. If they had followed the basic survival strategies, they may have been rescued earlier. To make the fire, you need a thin piece of wood and a stick. First make a whole in the thin piece of wood, and then place the stick in the hole and rub it in order to create friction. When smoke starts to appear, place some dried tinder around the whole for it to catch fire. In the book Lord of the Flies, the boys did not use this method, but made a fire by using specs. The final standard for surviving on a tropical island is making a raft to leave the island. To make the raft, gather some thick logs and vines. Once the materials are ready, place the logs next to each other in order to obtain a square. Once you have the square, hold the platform together by wrapping the logs with the vines. The survivors in the story did not get rescued earlier because they did not use this method and hoping for a plane to spot them instead of trying to build a raft and escape.
