A legacy symbolizes and acknowledges the contribution and impact a person has made and left in life. The word itself is correlated to the fact that the individual has provided something of significance in life. (Llopis, 2014). Henrietta Lacks was born on the first of August in 1920 in Roanoke, Virginia (Skloot, 2010, p. 18). She was a southern Tobacco farmer and mother of five children. The death of Lacks caused by Cervical cancer was on the fourth of October in 1951 (Skloot, 2010, p. 86). However, her story continues from her cells that were taken by George Gey without her approval and are known to be called HeLa cells that have been constantly growing and used in multiple experiments. Deborah “Dale” Lacks is the fourth child of Henrietta and David “Day” Lacks (Skloot, 2010, p. 14). Deborah Lacks was able to acquire additional information about her mother with the support of the author of The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks, Rebecca Skloot, who reached out and identified her part of the legacy. Deborah became involved with the story of HeLa cells about twenty years later after her mother died for the reason that no one declared that parts of her were still active in existence. Though, she involuntarily became involved once her mother past away (Skloot, 2010). She agreed to meet Skloot on the ninth of July in 2000 to discuss Henrietta (Skloot, 2010, p. 233). Previously to meeting her, Deborah received the first phone call from her in 1999 and was informed that she was writing a book about her mother. During their conversation, Deborah enlightened the soon to be author of facts, stories, and questions. Before meeting Skloot, she often refused to communicate and reveal information. According to Skloot, when she assured she would speak to her again she simply refused (Skloot, 2010, p. 52-53).
