In the passage A Raisin In the Sun by Lorraine Hansberry. It’s a passage written in 1959. This play was important to write about to see the difference between the movie and the story. This play is mainly about a black family in the 1950 that lived in Chicago. They lived through racism. The poem “Harlem” by Langston Hughes ties in. The main idea of this poem is to connect to A Raisin In the Sun. The conflict between Mama and Walter.
Walter was a good guy but had a short temper. In A Raisin In The Sun, there were many conflicts with Walter in the passages that line with the poem "Harlem¨. Mama is also related to the poem “Harlem '' Mama was in her late 60 she was the mom of Walter and she wasn’t the wealthiest around but barely made it. Her husband died and they got money off of the insurance money which made a lot of the conflicts. One way that Mama relates to the poem “Harlem '' is “crust and sugar over '' Mama crusts over when Walter lost the money and was going to sell the house. In the text, it states that “I saw- him-night after night-come in'' This is because Walter lost the money that she didn’t know what to do with herself. The second way the mama relates to the poem “Harlem'' is “Maybe it just sags like a heavy load” Mama relates that by being sad but trying to hold herself up and be proud of her kids. In the text it states that “Son-how come you talk so much ‘about money”(Hansberry 129) Mama doesn't know what or should do about the problem that she is having with Walter. The third way that Mama lines with the poem “Harlem '' is “Does it dry up” This is when Walter tells Mama all that he wants and takes her about. In the text, it states that “When a man goes outside his home to look for peace” Mama explains to him that it's scary if a man leaves his house to find peace. But there are many more places to go.
