What do you base your morals off of? That source may be the Quran, a philosopher, your mother, or the law. Most sources share the same belief in helping one another. As Elie Wiesel said, all humans must work together to take the responsibility to protect one another when acts of genocide occur. Protection is providing people with food, water, clothing, shelter, jobs, and education. Many people in this day and age feel that if an issue does not affect them directly, then they should not attempt to fix the problem. This is a negative state of mind. If everyone felt this way events, like the holocaust or slavery would have never ended. Since other countries, like the United States, stepped into the conflict, the holocaust was able to be put to a stop. In the bible it says “Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.”- Galatians 6:2 (biblestudytools). This quote is referring to what some may know as karma. By fulfilling the law of christ you will be blessed with good fortune. The United States took a chance and fought in World War Two and won. The Holocaust was a huge burden in Europe, and America took it on as its burden too. Throughout the book Night Wiesel continuously gave examples of how him and his father always carry each other's burdens, and help each other. Even though they were both unwell in the camp, they still put one another’s needs first. In the book it says “ Don't worry son go to sleep. I'll watch over you. You first father, sleep.”(page 89). This a dialogue of them insisting on one another’s rest. They both carry each other’s burdens in hopes of a good outcome. Many people went to the United States, France, Great Britain, and Belgium, the Netherlands, Denmark, Czechoslovakia, and Switzerland. Many countries rejected refugees, others let a limited number in, and some welcomed all refugees. The bible says “Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you.”- Matthew 5:42 (biblestudytools). This quote is saying to always help someone when they ask. Many of these people were unable to find a new home, and unfortunately became victims of the concentration camps.
