“Although Nat Turner did not end slavery as he hoped, he shook the institution to its core (Britannica).” Nat Turner is a famous slave from the 1800s that led a rebellion against slavery by murdering whites. This was involved with the Civil War because it made the whites more cautious of the slaves and created more rules. What is the most important thing to know about Nat Turner? The most important thing to know about Nat Turner is his birth, rebellion, and death.
Nat Turner’s early years helped him become a rebellious person. Nat Turner was born in 1800, he was born on a small plantation in Jerusalem, Virginia (History.com). His mother gave him a hatred for slavery, he spread terror among southern whites. He was taught to read by the owner’s son (Willson). He was born on a small remote plantation, he was given a hatred for slavery. His early years helped him become a rebellious person.

Turner believed God chose him to free slaves. Less than a year after he was sold he witnessed a solar eclipse that made him believe he should plan an uprising (Britannica). Turner saw the sun turn bluish-green, which started the uprising as a sign of God (Willson). Only 75 slaves joined his uprising (Willson). They were chased by over 3,000 members of the Southern militia, the uprising ended in 48 hours, and his rebellion ended with 55 to 65 white deaths (Willson).
