What I believe is the Most Significant Factor Influencing Adolescent Development Adolescent development is a complex time in life. Relationships, social media, physical appearance, personal interests and abilities, hobbies and extracurricular activities, and socioeconomic status all pose a significant influencing impact on adolescents. For this discussion, I chose social media has the most significant factor influencing adolescent development. There are so many factors that intertwine with social media, ranging. Not a week goes by where we do not hear about bullying, real time suicides, etc. effecting our adolescents. Social media plays a major role in adolescent development. Culture, Social Media, and Adolescent Development When dealing with social media and influence on adolescents, cultural factors cannot be ignored. Culture is a major factor in adolescent development. Media exposure was higher in Black, Hispanic, and Asian groups (by approximately 4 hours per day) compared to Whites and among boys (by approximately one hour per day (Center on Media and Human Development, 2011).
