The portrayal of female characters in Afghanistan in Khaled Hosseini's book "A Thousand Splendid Suns" has drawn considerable interest and through themes of courage, sacrifice and survival, has led me to believe it to be a successful feminist narrative. The book depicts the struggles and triumphs of two women, Mariam and Laila, as they navigate life under cyclical oppressive regimes that always leave women at a disadvantage and the patriarchal society in which they live.
