Dave Pelzer: A Child Called It
The book that I have chosen to complete a book report about is called “A Child Called It.” The author’s name is Dave Pelzer. He wrote this book because he was abused and wanted to inspire many kids who are going through the same thing he went through. The setting of the book is a kids childhood describing his life and emotions at home. The story took place in Daly City, California and it happened around the year of 1973.
The major character in this book is named Dave Pelzer. He has a very rough life at home and is often considered the nasty, smelly kid at school. Dave is very mistreated at home and is often only called “The Boy.” Very rarely is he called by his name because his family thinks he isn’t good enough to have a real name. Food is very important to him, but very rarely does he get a slice of bread. The book was wrote from his experiences from the ages of of four to twelve. After many slams, whams, and smacks that he received, mother instructed Dave of the excuse to inform the school officials. If Dave didn’t follow orders and any school official contacted his parents, there was some form of punishment. Everyday, Dave would receive very few pieces of food and finally decided that he needed more food to survive. After many days of eating very nicely, his mother was called and informed that he was stealing lunch from other students and even stealing lunch from the cafeteria. After that, Dave had to walk to school everyday because if he didn't get a ride, there would be little to no time to steal food. That was where the main problem had been found.
