The book Victor Cruz: Out of the Blue is an autobiography written by himself and Peter Schrager. The setting of the book starts out in the middle of a very close game between the New York Jets and the New York Giants. Victor Cruz and Dominique-Rodgers cromartie, a jets former cornerback, were facing up against each other. This autobiography is a story about Victor Cruz’s life while he was growing up and who he is to this present day. He grew up in Paterson, New Jersey. He had a very tough time when he was young and got bullied a ton. While Victor was growing up, his goal was to play professional basketball and nothing could get in his way. He then went undrafted in 2010 until the New York Giants signed him. The very next season Cruz had a breakout year by leading the league in receiving yards. In that spectacular season Cruz then led the franchise to Super Bowl XLVI in 2011, where they won against the New England Patriots 21-17. While Cruz was growing up he was surrounded by gangs and drugs up and down the streets of Paterson, New Jersey. The chances of Cruz excelling and being a professional athlete was very few due to how he grew up. He then went to college and was a tremendous and acceptable athlete who could do almost anything on the field. But, he failed academically and it took him a long time to get back on track. Cruz then enrolled in the University of Massachusetts but got kicked out due to bad grades and got sent back to Paterson to lift himself back up. In this quote, he is saying that you have to take chances/risks in life and cannot be scared about doing something because you will regret it later on in life. Victor’s goal was to be the best he can be whenever. He never gave up, and if he fell down he would get right back up and put in 110% to be the best there is. That is what it takes to be better than the other star wide receivers. If you want to get better you have to face someone who is better than you, not someone who is worse than you because then you get a play off and lose your confidence about going up against the best of the best. Victor Cruz is a guy who always wants the toughest matchup because he wants to be better than he was the previous year, not the same old Victor
