Have you ever thought that there could ever be anything wrong with Disney Movies? Well there are actually so many things wrong with “The little mermaid movie”. Out there, there are people that do look over movies from Disney and more through a sociological perspective. I will be telling you today how sociological topics help determine whether or not the film is indeed troublesome by culture, deviance, and love/marriage.

Throughout Little mermaid culture is created between mermaids and humans. The mermaids' culture is very important. They are known to humans however cant be seen by them. It's known to every mermaid to never go to Ursula… but not to Ariel. She break not just one norm she breaks even more norms by going to Ursula and getting granted three day to get a kiss from the man of her dream but they price she has to pay if she can't make it in time she lose her voice and will turn back into a mermaid and become Ursula's slave. She does this without a parent to agree.

Deviance seems to be the main aspect of the story.The norms broken leads her father to fear for her life. Ariel has all kinds of human stuff which seems to be a violation of cultural norms and it is very deviant. Sebastian sees this and doesn't like to see that she has gone that far with disobeying her father. She goes as far as saving the price and by going above the surface. A huge taboo.

Price Aric is supposed to get married but yet doesn't feel the need too. Ariel is already all over the topic of getting married and is ready to give up her voice and herself for a man. As many mermaids are out there she needs to marry the first dude she sets her eyes on. The little mermaid's voice is her most cherished talent.
