The higher a person's ability to empathize, the higher their forgiveness. The novel, “Bronx Masquerade” by Nikki Grimes, demonstrated this through the character, Porscha Johnson. “I’m older now and understand a little about pain, and the crazy things, it drives us to. So, even though this may be overdue- Mom I finally forgive you” ( 161 Grimes). Porsche lost her mother due to an overdose of drugs. Furthermore, she has been bullied in school for 9 months. When she fights back, everyone sees as a monster. Porscha always feels betrayed by her mother for leaving her. Proscha has empathy for the situation her mother was in. She wrote a letter in form of a letter to forgive her mother and show other kids who she was. In like manner, the song “Posthumous Forgiveness”, by Tame Impala, a song inspired by the story of Kevin Parker’s parent divorce, provides a similar perspective of a son who has trouble trusting and forgiving his parents after a betrayal. “I'd never …show more content…
It’s such a betrayal to the son. Kevin detested her father abandoning his children, though he used to give them “trust”. When his father passed away, leading Kevin had to reappear his feelings about the men. Kevin grows up, living an adult life, and he sees how hard it is. He realizes each man has their demons, and what his father did was just to save himself. The message of the song has a close similarity to the character Porscha. Both of them have experienced an adverse childhood with no parents next to teach, to support them. Seeing people with parents, jealous makes their hearts impacted greatly, and gradually, formed hatred toward their parents. Life goes on, after how society treats them, Kevin and Porscha know their parent at some point were in the same situation as them. They’ve learned to empathize with and forgive their parent. Hatred finally comes out of their chest and how they look at the most influential person in their
