Fake it till you make it. This is a central theme in the 2013 adaptation of F. Scott. Fitzgerald’s famous novel The Great Gatsby. Both the novel and film follow the escapades of the young, wealthy Jay Gatsby, or his real name James Gatz. Gatsby is a prime example of the old saying “fake it till you make it” because throughout the entirety of the film he exudes this overly confident, domineering persona. Pause here and let the people reflect on multilayeredness. From the viewer's perspective I think that DiCaprio’s Gatsby is a multi-layered character that lets his insecurities and obsessions command the course of his life because his only goal is to dispose of his only regret: Losing Daisy. Therefore I think that despite the end of Gatsby’s life and with it his hopes of winning back Daisy, everyone can learn a thing or two from Gatsby. Stay slow!! Minus the whole obsessively trying to relive the past thing. To Gatsby’s credit he is a prime example of how far a person can get in life by working hard and using their time, effort, and attention towards achieving a single goal. In Gatsby’s case the goal was to amass great wealth in order to impress Daisy. Which he did do thanks to his meticulous attention to learning the manners of the wealthy, polishing his diction and appearance, and by faking an air of importance and self-confidence in order to exude a
