“How hatred is learned and then unlearned” is an article in the Oregonian and was written by Mark Mathabane. Mark claims that “Hatred can only be effectively combated if we understand how it is learned and how it can be unlearned.” One way Mark says that hatred can be unlearned is “One must have the courage to constantly assess one's attitude and behavior rather than assume that one is beyond evil.”(1 Mathabane). By saying this he means that everyone deserves the decency to not be judged based on their appearance but rather the way they act and behave themselves. One example of this is when mark states “One must give others the benefit of the doubt and attempt to walk in their shoes one must be willing to communicate to learn into a knowledge and affirm that Humanity of others by treating them with kindness and empathy tolerance forgiveness understanding and love…”(2 Mathabane).
