The story “Just my Rotten Luck” by James Patterson is an empowering story showcasing the troubles of middle school. In this story the two character Rafe and Miller are the protagonist and antagonist. Naturally these characters will be very different, but looking deeper into the story we can find hidden similarities. One similarity they have is their enjoyment for football but but of them developed this in different ways. When football season comes around Miller's team needs someone fast to win the game, so they need Rafe. They threatened him to be on the team in fact his exact words were “‘So now you are going to convince coach Shumsky to put you on the falcons roster’ Miller said ‘Or else’ James Patterson, Pg. 88.” Itś easy to see here, that Rafe and Miller had very different opinions about football but once Miller threatened Rafe enough he finally joined the team. At first Rafe was getting tackled left and right but when his first game came a lot changed. Miller is a bully in school he liked to make Rafe’s life miserable before he joined the football team. Rafe on the other side was the bullied. He may not have liked getting bullied but he didn’t know what to do about it. Rafe had an escape from bullying and it was art. Miller also had an escape from problems it was bullying. Rafe started to pretend to be someone called Sam so he could express how he felt about bullying . Miller stops bullying him but bullies other and Rafe doesn't like this. He made a stand against it. “‘I score and you leave my friends alone’ James Patterson, Pg. 285” was what he said. That was how he was able to stop Miller.
