Matilda is the movie of a bright young lady, that’s nine years old and who is eager to learn but she has a cruel principal named Miss. Trunchbull and a wonderful teacher named Miss. Honey. Throughout the film, Matilda found on the inside that she was just more than brains, she was magic. For us to learn what she has been through and how she has developed, film techniques can help us figure out the concept of the theme and how the film come together as one. The film techniques thats used in this film are lighting, camera angles, and set design and they highlight the theme of childhood development and education. Lighting is one of the film techniques that highlights the theme to make it look more natural and bright. One example from the film was how Horitestia describes Miss. Trunchbull chokey; as it being very gloomy on the inside and low lightning which makes that being a very scary place to be. Another specific scene was when Matilda went into Miss. At a high angle camera to Miss. Truchbull and Bruce, she demands he confess eating the piece of cake that he was not suppose to eat, while he’s feeling powerless and guilty. An example from Matilda was a low angle shot when Matilda was going to the library at four years old to make the audience share the little girl perspective on wanting to educate herself. Another example of camera angling was when Matilda father always wanting to be right and her being inferior to him the camera switches from a high angle to low angle which shows the kind of bond Matilda have with her father. There’s a way adults or teachers should discipline a child on the wrong they committed and how they won’t do it again which connects to the theme dealing with child
