In the novel To Kill A Mockingbird, Harper Lee shows prejudice in Maycomb through characters. Prejudice is the judgement of a person based on what they look like such as their gender, age and skin color without knowing them. There are different types of prejudice that are shown in this novel. An example of prejudice in Maycomb is when Mrs. Maudie cannot be on a jury just because she is a woman, "Miss Maudie can 't be on a jury because she 's a woman (221)." In Maycomb, blacks and whites are separated. This was shown to Atticus through some of the townspeople. "Mr. Bob Ewell stopped Atticus on the post office corner, spat in his face, and told him he 'd get him if it took the rest of his life (217)." Mr. Ewell spat on Atticus ' face but he
