In the book “The Absolutely True Diary Of A Part-Time Indian” the theme is about teenagers and alcohol and how it can change your behavior and how badly you think and do actions that could lead to certain destructive emotions from close ones. The main character/Protagonist is Junior aka (Arnold spirit), the theme connects to his family because it’s about his tribe and family struggling with money on a tribe in Spokane, Washington with living in poverty, and depression, and having people in his tribe being very addicted to alcohol, which caused many deaths of the people around him and having to go to multiple funerals.

In the book chapter “Because Russian Guys Are Not Always Geniuses”. It talks about how alcohol can connect to junior's life of living with people around him affecting their way of life and how they are dying. In the text it says, says, “And you know what the worst part is? The unhappy part? About 9 percent of the deaths have been because of alcohol.” (200)” This shows that the theme by Sherman Alexie can connect because most of the book talks about how …show more content…

In this part of the book, it’s basically saying that Junior’s dad goes off during Christmas where it’s supposed to be a nice family time holiday where everyone is together and gathers around, but then he runs away for a whole week far from junior and gets drunk for the holiday week and has a hangover.
