Being loyal to others can help build up the trust to work together or help them towards success. The Incredible Journey, by Sheila Burnford, story that takes place in Ontario, Canada. Luath, Bodger, and Tao are group of house pets who are going out into the Canadian wilderness to try to find their way home to the family they loved while going through starvation and separation. While their journey was coming to an end, the animals realized that without their strong friendship with one another and their teamwork, they wouldn’t have been capable of surviving their three hundred mile journey to find their owners, The Hunters. To begin with, Luath and Bodger were completely on their own to find resources and to try to continue to survive the journey without Tao, but then come across a black collie who caught them eating the chickens at his owner’s barn so they worked together to fight the collie (pg. 82-84). This demonstrates that ever since Tao got separated from them by the river, Luath and Bodger had to build the trust to depend on each for their survival so they can try to survive the journey safely together without depending on Tao unlike before. They were loyal enough to risk their lives for each other, and they worked hard together to fight the dangers they encountered on their journey. Moreover, Helvi Nurmis saved Tao out of the river and took care of him a lot because he was temporarily deaf until he got better and left to go find his friends (pg.71). This illustrates that Helvi’s loyalty lead Tao to depend on her for his survival for a while when he was temporarily deaf. She was able help Tao get his health back to where he was able to head back to the forest to find his friends and continue his journey with them to find his owners.
