The turning is a collection of short stories by celebrated author Tim Winton which all share the same themes and containing references to the other stories in the book.
The stories show the experiences of adolescence growing up in rural Australia or in the city and have moved from there.
The protagonist in the Turning are always referred to as ‘me’ to better put yourself in their shoes making the stories more immersive.
The character from Big world want to go up north while the character from abbreviation is from the town Angelus the same town as Big world Showing connections between the short stories.
On her knees also says they are from the south and moved up north.

The protagonist wants to move off to the city where he was born while Biggy is Born in the town and wants to stay there until he gets convinced to leave the town.
The appearance of the protagonist is not described anywhere in the book most likely, so you can fill the gaps yourself as Biggy is described as bulky and ugly.

On her knees is strongly based on dignity and honesty and is based in the city where the protagonist described as me is a student while their mother is a cleaner and their father is out of the picture.
The basic outline of the short story is that their mother is a hard-working cleaner and one day she is accused of stealing and her whole job is at stake.
The plot plays a very small part in the story it is mostly about setting and theme oriented.
Since it does mention vacuum cleaners the period it is based in would be relatively recent but other then that it gives little indication of the time period leaving gaps for the readers to fill …show more content…

The protagonist is yet again described as me and was given very little character development.
So you can fill in the gaps, but we get to know that they are a teenage surfer and they are male.
On the first page alone six characters are given mention; me, Langs, Vic, grandma, uncle Ernie and Vic’s cousins which made the first part of the book very hard to follow.
Even though this one of the largest books in the collection it still has way too many characters even a book much larger than this should not have this many characters it really ruins the short story and it dilutes the value of the plot.
The story mentions both grandma and nanna and I am unsure if they are the same character and if so the first page has seven characters.
At the start it is mostly going into detail of all these characters without doing much with them leading to me believing that the first and last parts of it are there purely for filler.
The short story is based on the sandy dunes of white point camping out
