The Trial of Ricky Bobby Smith

On an undetermined date a robbery of a local gas station occurred leaving one victim, Sallie Mae Rickets. Sallie was unharmed but was severely traumatized by the incident, Sallie Mae was however able to give a description to the local Law Enforcement Agency. Based upon the description of the assailant and recovered evidence at the scene, Law Enforcement Officials were able to make an arrest. The man charged in the crime was Ricky Bobby Smith who fit the description and was positively identified by Sally Mae Rickets.
Mr. Smith upon being arrest was transported to the local holding facility and was booked in as a criminal awaiting a court date. He was placed in a holding cell with no mattress or blanket on a concrete floor for 2 days waiting to be placed in general population. His fingerprints and mug shot were taken. Mr. Smith had prior arrests for OWI, DWS, felony theft and burglary charges he served four years on a ten year sentence and was on parole. Mr. Smith …show more content…

Bobby was appointed a Public Defender due to unemployment. Tuesday morning Ricky Bobby Smith was arraigned and bound over to the grand jury for indictment. Usually it takes 90 days but the Grand Jury compelling and indicted him for robbery first degree, a class D felony.
Mr. Smith was transported from the local jail to county jail for long term housing. Court appearances are normally 30-45 days apart; Mr. Smith can plan to stay for awhile. His bond was set at 25,000 cash and he has no family to help him get out. Mr. Smith was appointed a Public Defender, Stanley Ridgecutt, a seasoned veteran of the Public Defender’s office. Mr.Ridgecutt dug into the clients past pulling his records.
It turns out Mr. Smith has a history of mild mental illness which was exposed by the trial of admissions, which resulted to 72 hours of suicide watch at the mental ward. This could be useful later in court to help get charges amended or dismissed altogether in lieu of jail or prison
