After the sudden death of Franklin D. Roosevelt, Harry S. Truman was elected as president which happened to be during the time of widespread chaos. The initial plan as he took office was to prevent and contain the geographical expansion of the Soviet Union. The Truman Doctrine came into effect as a foreign policy that enabled the United States to fully advocate anti-communism forces from further developing. Joseph McCarthy's actions on communism were indeed extreme. However, they were similar to measures taken by state and municipal governments out of fear of a communist uproar. Although Mccarthyism has become obsolete, Anti-Communism was still very relevant at the time. He put an everlasting effect that made the Communist party banned from the US. Companies and states demanded loyalty tests from employees that lasted until the 1960s. Those that were blacklisted by McCarthy remained in that list for many years. Although McCarthy put so much emphasis on Communism and having false accusations of some people, it proved and made people aware of how much damage the Soviets could have done. McCarthy played an important role alongside the media in establishing a coherent image of being invaded by another country. McCarthy influenced the Truman Administration to set up Loyalty Programs and remove anyone in the government suspected of associating with Communists. The federal administrators were in charge of the hearings. These Boards have transcripts held with results that were regularly leaked to the press. For many of the individuals that were suspected in the Communist Party, they were automatically guilty of treason. The Boards did not have the ability to imprison those convicted, however they did fire individuals.The job’s people lost were less severe than the blacklisting that followed. In addition, the Truman Administration assembled a list of organizations that were against American foreign policy. Since American foreign policy was contributed towards Anti-Communist efforts, those that opposed it was surely Communists. This alone was directly affected by McCarthy’s actions and without his voice, these movements would have not happened. Communism was never justified and both Truman And McCarthy stood up to do what is right for the people and the government even if it means to accuse those were slightly suspicious.
